Repeat Theft Strikes Kaudiya Mata Temple in Varanasi, Leaving Priests Distressed
A renowned Kaudiya Mata Temple in Varanasi’s Durgakund area was hit by theft for the second time in two months. Police suspect the same thief, who failed to break the donation box but stole brass worship items from a shop, prompting priests to demand stronger security.
According to police officials, the latest burglary follows a pattern strikingly similar to the previous incident, leading investigators to suspect the involvement of the same offender. The accused reportedly entered the temple premises and first attempted to break open the donation box. When that effort failed, the focus shifted to a shop operating inside the temple complex.
During the theft, the suspect made away with brass worship utensils and several other religious items kept in the shop. While the donation box remained intact, the loss of sacred articles has deeply troubled the temple’s caretakers, who say repeated intrusions are eroding the sense of safety within the premises.
Temple priests have expressed growing frustration over the recurrence of such crimes, stating that despite the earlier incident, adequate preventive measures were not put in place. They have now formally appealed to the local administration to strengthen security arrangements, including surveillance and regular monitoring, to prevent further incidents.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the suspect at the earliest. Officials said they are reviewing evidence from both incidents to establish a clear link and ensure accountability.
The repeated targeting of a prominent religious site has highlighted vulnerabilities in temple security and underscored the need for more robust protection of places of worship. As authorities probe the matter, the incident has reignited broader concerns about safeguarding cultural and religious institutions in the city.
